Uganda Women National Basketball League champions JKL Lady Dolphins on Friday announced the signing of small forward Jane Asinde from Magic Stormers on a 4-year deal. The 18-year old Buddo SSS student becomes the third player to join the team in five days following the arrival of Moreen Atulinda from KIU Rangers and Brenda Nakitende from A1 Challenge. The teenager had a successful campaign last season returning 192 points and 143 rebounds. She was the youngest player to represent Uganda at the U23 3*3 Nations League in Mongolia and other 3*3 international engagements. With her stats matching right with that of her new club, Asinde believes that she is at the best team. “I am very excited to be part of this project. Everybody would love to be here,” she noted. Club Technical Director Fredrick ‘Freedom’ Owora said that he has been monitoring Asinde and the time was just right to secure her signature. “She is the best youngest female player in East Africa. She has a lot of room for improvement and that will happen soon as she will be surrounded by the best players and coaches,” Owora noted. Asinde who has been in the top tier for two years had a successful stint at school, leading her team all the way during last year’s East Africa Games where she claimed the MVP honors. JKL could secure a fourth player before they reinforce the male side.
