Drivers prepare for 2019 season opener

The 2019 National Rally Championship kicks off in February with the Lato Milk Mbarara rally to be held in the districts of Bushenyi and Mbarara. The calendar opening event organized by Mbarara motor club was launched early this week at Pearl Diary offices along Acacia Avenue in Kololo. This year’s event scheduled for 8th -10th covers a total distance of 294.90kms, 145.93kms competitive and 148.97kms transport sections. It will be the first time since 2012 that a rally event traverses the district of Bushenyi –which will be done in memory of the late Charles Muhangi, the fallen founding member of the organizing club and the first black African to win the African Rally Championship in 1999. The event sponsored by Lato Milk, Shell V-Power, Lake View Hotel among others, will begin with scrutineering on Friday, February 8 at Shell Biharwe before crews head for day one Saturday in Bushenyi to tackle two competitive sections that will climax with a Super Special Stage. Day two will consist of five competitive sections before the event’s prize giving ceremony at Mbarara at Lake View Hotel.
