Vipers vs Mbrara City, Kitende
Vipers SC missed the golden chance to close gap on StarTimes Uganda premier league leaders KCCA FC as they were held 1-1 by URA FC at Namboole stadium on Friday. The Venoms started chasing the game in the 36th minute when Shafik Kagimu gave the hosts lead. But Dan Sserunkuma grabbed his 8th of the campaign with an equaliser in the added minute of first half. The striker, who is just two goals behind current top scorer Bashir Mutanda (SC Villa), was before kickoff awarded with a golden boot and Shs1m by Uganda premier league for his top scorer feat last season. In the game where both sides had chances to rue, Moses Waiswa of Vipers was named the Pilsner Man of the match on Friday to take home Shs100000 that comes with the feat. It was a result that seemed not likely for URA especially having their head Coach Sam Ssimbwa start his four-match ban over tribal comments that put the game in disrepute. The result means that the reigning champions are six points behind KCCA who lead with 36 points from 15 games. The second placed Venoms head into their last first round fixture this Sunday against Mbarara City at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende –which is also the Ankole Lions’ last game as the league’s first round curtains officially come down. Mbarara already secured their 3rd place going into the break, but will want to grab their second away victory of the season. Only three points separate the two sides and a victory of more than three goals sees the Livingstone Mbabazi side leapfrog Vipers that are yet to lose at home.
