Playing tennis is exciting, but holding a racket for competitive tennis is much more exciting to young kids making a competition debut. As the inaugural Kampala Junior Open tennis tournament got underway on Wednesday, Jordan Amanya Bwiire was one of the 136 kids that took part.

The eleven year old revealed that he wants to be best at the end of the two-day Open organized by Red Rhino at Lugogo tennis courts. The kids; both girls and boys are playing seven different age categories in Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The tournament aims at providing Junior Tennis Players with a competitive platform to sharpen their skills and prepare them for international events. Local tennis legend John Oduke is optimistic that the tournament will help identify Uganda’s future tennis stars. Oduke noted that there are many good young players and such tournaments for juniors are very important for their development.
