Kabale vs Nkumba, Kabale

Makerere University (MAK) marked the return to the Pepsi University football league with a 1-0 win at Kampala International University (KIU) on Monday in the 2019 season preliminary knockout tie. MAK had been suspended from the competition due to their rowdy fans’ indiscipline. John Paul Bonga scored the only goal in the 35th minute to give MAK the first leg advantage ahead of the return leg clash. The preliminary round stage continues today with Kabale University hosting Nkumba in the first leg. The eighth season that commenced on Monday was launched last week –with the league expanding from 16 to 19 after the inclusion of; Muni University, Kabale University and International University of East Africa (IUEA) that joined MAK (returning from suspension). The new comers, along with MAK face relegated sides from last year’s edition including Nkumba, KIU and Gulu with each the aggregate winner from the two legs advancing to the group stage.
