Champions UCU Lady Cardinals were on Saturday dumped out of this year’s FUFA women Cup after a humiliating 3-1 home loss to Kawempe Women football club at the round of 32 in Mukono. Anita Namata, Aisha Nantongo and substitute Samalie Nakachwa scored for the league champions. Namata put the visitors ahead after goal keeper Ruth Aturo failed to deal with a teasing cross from left back Grace Aluka at half hour mark. Exciting midfielder Aisha Nantongo doubled lead from a free kick 30 minutes later, before UCU Captain Maureen Kinavundori pulled one back –finishing off Catherine Nakiridde’s assist in the 75th minute. Samalie Nakachwa put the game beyond Hosts’ reach with Kawempe’s third in the last two minutes as the Ayub Khalifan’s side booked a place at the round of 16. “We conceded the first and the second goal, which were clear, but the third one came after referee denying us a penalty,” a furious Coach Peter Ssebulime remarked after the final whistle. For Ayub, his side played under instructions and to satisfaction. “UCU played at their level best, but maybe they respected us especially in the first half by remaining defensive,” he noted. Albeit winning four straight league titles, Kawempe are seeking their first Women Cup trophy. Elsewhere, Devine Girls ejected Rines SS after spot kicks following normal time stalemate while Olila got a walkover against Amuria High School who did not turn up for the tie in Soroti.
