Betway Kobs brightened their 2018/19 Nile special Rugby Premiership title hopes on Saturday after condemning bitter rivals Hima Cement Heathens to their first season loss. The resurgent Betway-sponsored Kobs claimed a 26-21 victory at Legends Rugby Club in a clash that saw Kobs back rower Joseph Aredo run the show with a 13 points return. Heathens struggled to match Aredo footsteps –earning Kobs an early penalty before Simon Okwera leveled matters for the visitors. Aredo was fully involved in Kobs first try; capitalizing on rookie Robert Masendi’s handling error. He set up Ian Munyani who ardently passed the ball to Edgar Seruwagi to slot home. Aredo even added extras to make it 10-03. Davis Kiwalabye scored Kobs’ second try moments after James Ijongat’s drop kick. Aredo once again utilized the extras as Kobs led 20-03 by break time. Aredo scored a penalty for Kobs in the early stages of the second half and Okwera once again attempted to bring Heathens back to the game with a penalty. Cox Muhigwa scored Heathens’ first try later on but failed to convert. Later in the game, Aredo, who was named man of the match, sealed matters with another penalty as Kobs won the game by 26-21.  “We really had to work had because today we faced a very strong opponent. We now have to focus on the next games,’’ Aredo noted. Kobs are now on the summit with 59 points whilst Heathens staying second with 56.
