Uganda Golf Union (UGU) and Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) announced a Golf Tourism partnership on Monday at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante. The partnership that will be effective this year will see both parties work together to position Uganda as a golf tourism hub. This starts with a joint promotion of the 2019 Uganda Golf Open Tour; which will traverse the whole country with the launch set for March 30 at the prestigious Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club, Kigo. Speaking at the event, UTB CEO Stephen Asiimwe noted this is a good deal for golf whilst tourism and economy will be boosted. “Most golf courses in Uganda are situated in places with tourism sites for example the source of the Nile in Jinja and Mt. Elgon is near golf clubs. After the game(s), golfers can visit such areas,’’ Asiimwe noted. UGU President Innocent Kihika is delighted with the partnership, revealing that it will benefit the local communities economically. He added Uganda is one of the best places to play golf from; basing on its favorable conditions and the budding of new golf clubs.
