Ugandan runners Jacob Kiplimo and Stella Chesang emerged overall men and women winners respectively at the Uganda National Cross Country Championships held on Saturday in Tororo District. The event was meant to select the team for the World Cross Country championship due next month in Denmark. Kipilmo continued his impressive form, beating Commonwealth double gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei who settled for second place in senior men 10kms. ‘I prepared for this championship and it has paid off. We have to be set for the world event in Denmark because there will be tough competition from Kenya and Ethiopia athletes,’ Kiplimo said after the race. Commonwealth Gold medalist Stella Chesang won women’s race, beating Chebet Rachael Zena to second. Other winners for the day included Musagala Ronald -2km men, Chebet Esther -2km women, Chelangant Sarah -6km women and Kiplagant Hosea -8km men. Kiplimo, 18 has surely come of age. He also beat Cheptegei to gold medal during the IAAF permit in Spain.  He has won the past three editions of the IAAF Cross Country Permit and is buoyed to emerge overall champion. A provisional team will be invited to camp in preparation for the world cross country in Denmark on March 30.
