St. Lawrence vs Uganda Martyrs, Kavulu

Last season’s second runners-up St. Lawrence University (SLAU) host former champions Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi (UMU) this Tuesday at Kavulu in the first group B game of the 2018/19 Pepsi University Football League. This will be the first meeting between the two sides. SLAU joined the league in 2016 while UMU are a pioneer team in the Pepsi-sponsored league. Ahead of the unpredictable clash, both coaches are eager to bag a wining start to the season. SLAU finished third last term after beating Bugema University 5-0 in the third place playoff having lost initially lost to Kampala University (KU) in the semi-finals. UMU meanwhile were knocked out at the quarter-finals by eventual champions Kyambogo University on away goals. The 2017 winners will be under the management of new coach Noah Mugerwa following the departure of Shafiq Bisaso. Mugerwa, who has previously coached Busujju in the Airtel-Masaza Cup, is buoyed ahead of his first Pepsi University Football League game. “I have been following the league and it is a very tough competition. This is going to be a new challenge for me and I am sure that together with the boys, we shall have a great season,” said Mugerwa, who added that: “St. Lawrence are a tough team to play but we are well prepared for them.” Gulu and Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) are the other sides in Group B.
