Pepsi University Football League
Nkumba vs YMCA, Entebbe
Nkumba University hope to open a new Pepsi University Football League chapter when they host YMCA Comprehensive Institute this Thursday in Entebbe during the opening group A encounter of the 2019 season. This will be the first meeting between the two sides. YMCA Comprehensive joined the league in 2017 while Nkumba are one of the pioneer teams of the Pepsi-sponsored league. Nkumba, who were relegated last season after finishing at the bottom of their group, had to play a two-legged preliminary round knockout tie against Kabale University before making their way back to this season’s group. Coach Patrick Sebuliba believes that, while it was not desirable to go through preliminaries, it was a blessing in disguise as it helped the team prepare for the season better. “Of course no team would want to go through preliminaries since there is a chance of being knocked out, but it has also helped us to prepare for the season. We are going to build on our performance against Kabale and I am confident of victory against YMCA especially since we are at home,” said Sebuliba. YMCA Coach Allan Katwe predicted an exciting match against Nkumba and hopes for victory against a team (Nkumba) he played for still under similar coach from 2014 to 2016. “It’s going to be exciting to face my mentor (Mr. Sebuliba) under whom I have learnt a lot. He has been a good teacher and I am grateful for that,” said Katwe. “It will be an interesting experience to be back at Nkumba where I spent several years doing my bachelors and masters degrees. But when we meet on the pitch that will not be on my mind; I will be the YMCA coach and we shall be going out for a win,” warned Katwe. Bishop Stuart and Bugema University are the other sides in group A. Bugema will start with -4 points after being docked 4 points for indiscipline in last year’s semi finals.
