*Bugema docked 4 points and 4 goals for gross indiscipline during last season’s semi-finals |
Bugema University begin their Pepsi University Football League campaign with a trip to Mbarara today to take on Bishop Stuart University this Friday. Bugema who finished fourth last season are looking to do better this season but they face an uphill task as they begin the season with negative 4 points and negative 4 goals. This was a punishment for gross indiscipline during last season’s semi-final second leg against eventual champions Kyambogo University.
Bugema coach Nyanzi Medhi is however hopeful that the team can make it to the knockout stages despite the undesirable start to the season. “It is going to be tough but I think we can do it. We are in a tough group with Nkumba, YMCA and even Bishop Stuart but I believe we can make it. We shall take it one game at a time,” he said.
Bishop Stuart, who finished third in their group last season, are under new management with former Rutooma SS coach Sengabi Idirisa taking over the coaching reins. “Our target this season is to qualify for the knockout stages having finished third in our group last season. Our group is a difficult one since all the teams are almost at the same level but we shall do our best to finish in the top two.” Sengabi noted.
