Vipers SC will be eager to bag their maiden win at Green light stadium, Arua this Tuesday when they visit rejuvenated Onduparaka FC in the StarTimes Uganda premier league headline fixture.
The Venoms are fresh from a 3-0 home win at Bright Stars whilst Onduparaka ended Mbarara City’s unbeaten home run with a 2-1 at Kakyeka stadium last time out.
It is the 6th meeting between the two sides –with the Venoms winning thrice, drawing and losing once previously. The past meetings have generated 11 goals in total with Vipers scoring 9 and conceding two.
Vipers lost 1-0 in Arua during Onduparaka’s first premier league season (2016/17) before settling for barren stalemate last season.
Dan Sserunkuma returns to the match day squad but Moses Waiswa, Yayo Lutimba, Livingstone Mulondo, Bashir Asiku and Geoffrey Wasswa remain out. “We are heading to a difficult place but the spirits are high. We want to win and continue pursuing the leaders and hope that we can get our first win from Arua,” noted Vipers skipper Tadeo Lwanga.
Onduparaka coach Sadic Sempigi says that they know how to handle clubs of Vipers magnitude and that they need to get the three points to get the fans’ morale back. “We shall attack them and unsure better possession. We have to double our efforts because it is not going to be an easy tie. The players know the importance of the game,” he said.
The West Nile will be without suspended Ceasar Okuthi, Denis Okot and Rashid Okocha but Sempigi believes they have right replacements to enable them make use of home advantage. “We respect Vipers but that does not mean that we fear them. We are ready for the challenge and our fans will be the 12th player as usual,” noted Onduparaka skipper Rashid Toha.
Vipers are second on long, four points behind leaders KCCA FC that host URA at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo. Onduparaka, who have blown hot and cold this season sit 6th with 30 points, 11 behind Vipers after 20 games.
