Power lifter Roy Mubiru will represent Uganda at the forthcoming 2019 World power lifting championship due May 16-19th much recharged to lift the national flag after acquiring blessings from the Head of State HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The heavy weight lifter was ‘honoured’ to meet the president after a long hustle to present his gold medal he won at the World Cup qualifiers in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
Mubiru, who met the President in Kiboga district at the youth mind set change workshop on Wednesday, had earlier met the Vice President HE Kiwanuka Sekandi and the speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga respectively.
Museveni hailed Mubiru’s achievement that lifted the Ugandan flag high before extending $8000 (Shs28m) for his World Cup preparations before promising financial help to see that the sport grows bigger in Uganda. “I am out words and honoured to meet the president. I have dreamed and worked for this since I started my career in 2008. But after achieving it, I am recharged. Our cardinal reason for meeting him was to see that he can help the youth through power lifting by helping in provision of equipment, gyms and of course self for their self help developmental projects,” explained Mubiru’s manager Frank Kaheesi, who doubles as Roy Mubiru (RM) power lifting communications director.
Mubiru, who staged a successful Roy Mubiru (RM) power lifting and cross fit championship at the Elite fitness center in Kisasi last month, has recently been appointed the director of American power lifting association (APA) in Africa and was nominated as a member to the world power lifting association (WPA). He will fly back to USA soon for world cup preparations.
