Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) host St. Lawrence University (SLAU) this Thursday in Mbale in Group B of the Pepsi University Football League with both teams in search of their first wins of the season. St. Lawrence who finished third last season were held to a 1-1 draw by former champions Uganda Martyrs in their opening game while IUIU held Gulu to a goalless draw away. This is the first meeting in the league between the two sides and IUIU coach Kebba Harunah believes that his side has what it takes to bag all three points from the game. “Obviously St. Lawrence are a good team, having finished third last season. I can say we are the underdogs in this game. However, I believe that at this stage of the competition, we shall be able to do well against them especially since we are playing at home,” Kebba said. St. Lawrence coach, Nnono Ssozi is keen on maintaining the momentum from the last season. “Last season we had a very good run and it was disappointing not to make it for the finals. This season we want to go all the way to the finals but first, we have to qualify from the group,” Nnono said
“The league has become very competitive. Previously when the groups were drawn, it would be obvious who would finish in the top two positions. Now, there at least 3 teams competing for the top 2 positions and in some groups all 4 teams are competing for the top 2 positions,” he noted. On Friday YMCA Comprehensive Institute host Bishop Stuart University at their Buwambo campus at 2.00pm. Both teams are in search of their first wins of the season having lost their opening games.
