Four Uganda women volleyball clubs; NUVC, KAVC Ladies, UCU Ladies and Ndejje Elites will on Friday conduct a fundraising  tournament ahead of the Africa Club Volleyball Championship to be held in Egypt in fortnight.  They will be joined by two men’s teams; KAVC Men and UCU Men. This initiative was orchestrated by Nkumba University Volleyball Club (NUVC) as they gear up for the Cairo games. NUVC and Nemostars Club will represent Uganda in this year’s championship in the women and men respectively. The fundraiser is one of the many women sports activities that are scheduled to mark the International Women’s Day. NUVC are the Uganda Women’s National Volleyball League champions which earned them a ticket to Cairo. Preparations for the event have been in high gear with the team having played tiral games in Italy recently. To raise money for the forthcoming championship, the club had organized a car wash fundraiser but sadly it was foiled by heavy rain. “We hope that this time round everything goes as planned. We the players have played our part but financial hiccups are a major setback,” NUVC’s Blocker Agnes Akanyo revealed. On Friday, women will take charge of many affairs at the arena; ranging from gate fees collection to security. Even female dejaay (DJ Laura) will be on the disks to entertain the fans. Gates will be open as early as 2PM and the charge for students is Shs5,000 while adults will part with Shs10,000. Volleyball clubs have always resorted to fundraising drives to raise funds for across-the-border engagements. The latest incident was NemoStars Mount Elgon hike that was intended to raise cash for the recently concluded Zone V games in Rwanda.
