Hippos won the Jinja derby over the weekend with a 33-07 triumph at Walukuba Barbarians at the Dam Waters, Jinja. The triumph meant that they remained 7th on the 10-team table with 24 points, 6 ahead of eight placed Rhinos.
Hippos, sponsored by Nile Precision Surveys hit the road to play MRI Rams at the Makerere Graveyard this Saturday in the third last weekend of the 2018/19 Nile Special Rugby Premiership.
Rams (12 points) have picked just two wins so far (against a single team Walukuba) and have always struggled to complete the game on the rhythm they started with hence losing in the last minutes. Last weekend, Rams was the better side against Rimula Rhinos but at the end of it all, they lost 18-17.
During their last match in Jinja against Hippos, Rams were beaten 15-12 through the last kick (penalty) of the game and it was such a frustration. For Hippos Coach player Saidi Atibu, his main goal is maintain 7thposition and a win against Rams will probably seal that –basing on the fixtures ahead.
“We want to be among the top seven teams and that is possible. It was a tough season for us because we were the last team to pick up a win but we worked our way out. Now we want to maintain our winning run,”Atibu revealed.
Hippos are now safe from relegation unlike Rams who can still go down if Walukuba (6 points) miraculously turns things around as the season climaxes.
