After the official launch of the 2019 Kabaka Birth Day Run last week by the Katikiro (Premier) of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, more partners are joining prime sponsors Airtel-Uganda.
The Run is due April 7th, ten days before the official 64th Kabaka’s Birthday celebrations on April 17th in Ndejje, Luwero.
The organisers have received sponsorship from Post Bank-Uganda.
The bank’s Executive Director Alex Kayaayo confirmed that they have agreed to partner with Buganda Kingdom because more than 50% of their business coverage is in Buganda.
“We serve health clientele and that is why we joined the run to save life. It is not the first time we are partnering with Buganda Kingdom on this venture. We shall ensure that our staffs participate on top of the official sponsorship,” noted Post Bank Senior Manager marketing and Corporate affairs Jackie Tahakanizibwa.
The Run intends to alleviate Sickle Cell Disease through raising funds and awareness.
Last year, over 140,000 Sickle Cell testing kits were donated to Uganda National Health laboratory Services procured by Airtel-Uganda from the proceedings of this run.
Over 60,000 runners are expected this year and will be flagged off by the Kabaka (King) early in the morning in Lubiri, Mengo.
Participants who will partake in 5km, 10km and 21kms respectively, can register at Bulange, Airtel Shop at New Park, Kyaggwe Road, Shoprite Ben at Kiwanuka street, Thoban building and by use of Airtel Money by dialing: *185#, Select payments, select Kabaka run, enter pin and complete payment.
