Uganda Christian University (UCU) face a crucial test in the Pepsi University Football League when they host league debutants International University of East Africa (IUEA) this Thursday in Mukono.

UCU, who have never failed to make it past the group stage of the competition in the last 5 years, are in search of their first win of this season. They are also yet to find their goal scoring boots having registered two goalless draws in their last two games against Makerere University Business School and Kampala University respectively.

UCU Coach Mwera Jimmy is hopeful that his team will this time be able to secure victory.

“This is a crucial game for us and we need to win it to boost our chances of finishing in the top two and making it to the knockout stage. It’s going to be a tough test for the team but I am sure we shall pass it with flying colours,” Mwera said.

For IUEA Coach Ntambi Dorian, the pressure is all on UCU. “UCU are going to be a tough team to play especially as they will be playing from home. So the pressure is all on them and we are simply going to increase that pressure. Our goal is to get all three points from the game because we also want to qualify for the knockout stage so we are going to take the game to them and see what comes out,” Ntambi said.

UCU are second from bottom whike IUEA are at the foot of group D after two games. MUBS and Kampala University (KU) are at the top and second with 4 and 2 points respectively.

Kampala International University (KIU) host Kumi University at Nsambya while on Sunday, Kyambogo University host Busitema University
