Uganda sports press association (USPA) has joined the rest of football fraternity to mourn the late Jack Walugembe, who formerly served as Wakiso Giants team doctor.
The late suffered a stroke last Thursday as he attended to a player and was rushed to Jinja hospital before being transferred to Nsambya hospital where he spent three days in coma before being pronounced dead on Monday.
In a statement signed by USPA President Patrick Kanyomozi, the sports journalists’ body is proud of Walugembe’s contribution to sports –especially football.
“On behalf of the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA), I wish to convey our deepest sympathy to you upon the loss of Jack Walugembe. During Walugembe’s many years of service, he distinguished himself with a pleasant, enthusiastic and friendly manner. We are all proud of his contribution to sports and we shall remember him with respect and admiration. At this difficult moment, please know we are holding you all in our thoughts and prayers,” the statement read.
FUFA has issued a statement directing a minute of silence before any match kickoff this week in the memory of Walugembe, who also worked as Cranes, Cubs (U17), URA and Proline FC team doctor.
The late will be burried this Wednesday (4pm) at Banda, Nkokonjeru after requiem mass at Makerere full Gospel church.
