Nemostars 3-2 GSU
Uganda’s volleyball club Nemostars won the opening game on Monday in the ongoing Africa Volleyball Club Championship in Cairo Egypt. Nemostars staged a two-set comeback to beat Zimbabwe University 2-3 in a Pool D clash. Zimbabwe University claimed the first set off a slim 25-23 triumph before Nemostars, led by their skipper and power attacker George Aporu, took Zimbabweans with a 14-25 in the second set. Set three had all to play for as both sides played a chase affair before Zimbabwe University finally won 30-28. In the fourth set, Zimbabwe would have sealed matters but Nemostars forced the decider following their 22-15 win. Nemostars later won set five 10-15 to increase group stage qualification chances. “They were very hectic games but we were prepared for such opposition. We must win the next game to qualify with a game to spare,” Nemostars coach Andrew Okapis said. Nemostars played Kenya’s GSU on Tuesday before resting on Wednesday ahead of their group stage games against Mwangaza and AS FAG respectively. They recorded their second straight victory of the tournament with a 3-2 (25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 25-27, 15-8) hectic win at GSU of Kenya. Uganda Christian University (UCU) are the other Uganda men side in the tournament and they beat Gendarmarie 3-0 (25-19, 29-27, 25-22) of Madagascar to claim their second win of the competition on Tuesday.
