Uganda’s Group Stage Results

Kenya 24-00 Uganda

Uganda 00-32 Papua New Guinea

Hong Kong 26-05 Uganda

Uganda Lady Rugby Cranes lost all their group stage fixtures against Kenya, Papaua New Guinea and hosts Hong Kong on Thursday during the Hong Kong 7s tournament hence had to pack their bags on game day one. Uganda managed only one try, scored by Black Pearls teenager Emilly Lekuru in the final game against Hong Kong. Uganda’s try came after a Hong Kong player was sent off with Uganda utilizing that advantage but Charlotte Mudoola failed to utilize the extras after Lekuru had touched down right in between the posts. Hence, Uganda’s road for core status qualification has come to an end. Uganda’s major problem in the build-up was lack pre-tournament test matches. The team had residential camp just days to the tournament which might have back fired. Financial constraints in the team have also let the team down and for now it back to the drawing board. Uganda also fielded the youngest team for the tournament but this is no excuse. Uganda was the 41st different team to feature at the prestigious Hong Kong show piece with the entire team but Charlotte Mudoola making their first appearance outside Africa.
