2019 FUBA National basketball league
Friday (Opening fixtures)
W – JKL Lady Dolphins vs KCCA Leopards 6: 30PM
M – Betway Power vs City Oilers 8: 30PM
Last season’s National Basketball League (NBL) runners up Betway Power will lock horns with title holders and straight six-time winners City Oilers in the opening fixture of the FUBA national basketball league (men) at the MTN Arena Lugogo this Friday. This will be a replica off last season’s climax of playoffs best of seven series which Oilers won 4-1. On Thursday, Power unveiled three new signings (Samuel Agutu, Syrus Kiviri and Libe Makala Jacques). The trio (Guards) was introduced to the media during a press briefing at the Betway-Uganda offices at Lugogo House, Lugogo-Kampala. A new dugout was also unleashed and Arnold Lando was unveiled as head coach assisted by Boniface Okello. During the finals of last season’s playoffs, Coach Okello also former Power player watched the proceedings from the stands and he observed Power getting many things wrong. “Power sometimes struggles to close in games when it matters the most. We must learn when to put much in defense and offense but most of all, team play is very important,” noted Okello, who refused to single out a player he will be banking on. He also highlighted that Oilers are a very defensive team and are very ruthless with their rebounds while Power sometimes let theirs slip. “We must capitalize on such small basics,” Okello said, adding that there is need to master the aspect of substitution especially when it comes to franchise players after Betway Power’s team selection was most of the times questioned last season. Betway Uganda Country Manager Adelle Agaba expressed excitement ahead of the new season in which she expects the team to reach playoffs and also win the title. “We shall support the team in every way possible in order to attain glory,” vowed Agaba. Team Manager Maureen Byoleko is also primed ahead of the season opener, noting that: We want to show everybody what we got it this time round.” For General Manager Phillip Kyomuhendo, the team’s sole target is to win the championship for he has trust in the new dugout and players.
