Friday result
Vipers SC 1-2 URA
Briht Stars 1-1 Police
Vipers SC Premier League title retention hopes were hit by a 2-1 home defeat to URA FC at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende on Friday.
Vipers had a chance to close on leaders KCCA FC but lost at home to a better URA to leave the Michael Ouma side six points off top spot in second with three games to go.
Skipper Shafik Kagimu opened the scoring in the 26th minute for the visitors with a strong left foot in a game they dominated.
The Tax Collectors took a 1-0 lead into the break and doubled the lead at the hour mark when Victor Kilama finished off a telling cut back by Plsner Man of the match Joachim Ojera.
Vipers pulled one back through second half substitute Diego Kiiza when he finished a rebounder following his initial penalty kick saved by James Alitho.
The controversial penalty that was bitterly protested by URA had been awarded following a foul on Innocent Wafula by URA left back Yeseri Waibi. Whereas URA unbeaten run on the road this season remained intact, the Venoms chances of retaining the premier league title were virtually dented. Table leaders KCCA play Express this Saturday at Lugogo and a win will extend their lead at the summit to 9 points ahead of second placed Vipers. Meanwhile, Bright Stars played to a 1-1 home draw with Police FC at Mwererwe. Nasur Safi Basani opened the scoring for the visitors before Pilsner Man of the match Augustine Kacancu leveled for the hosts.
