Total AFCON U17 finals
Saturday (Group B)
Uganda vs Nigeria
Angola vs Tanzania
Uganda Cubs will be aiming for nothing less than victory this Saturday when they face Nigeria in their last Group A game of the ongoing Total AFCON U17 finals in Tanzania.
The Fabien Kwesi side ran over hosts Tanzania with a 3-0 win on Wednesday to move third with 3 points after two games and brighten their chances of qualifying to the World Cup in Brazil later this year. Uganda is trailing second placed Angola by head to head disadvantage after losing to the West African nation 1-0 in the opening fixture.
A win over unbeaten group leaders Nigeria will either put Uganda at the summit on goal difference or quality as runners up if Angola falters against winless Tanzania.
The top two teams from each group qualify for the FIFA World Cup and Cubs coach Kwesi believes they need to work a little harder against Nigeria.
“If we play like this and then add a little, we shall win that much and get a ticket to Brazil. We are happy to bounce back like that and we hope we can it on. Ivan (Asaba) is a wonderful player and Kakaire (Thomas) is a ball winner and a good passer. I believe the two guys did exactly what we told them to do and I am happy with their game,” noted the Ghanaian after the Tanzania win.
Uganda welcomes back Ibrahim Juma from suspension after his red card in Angola’s loss. In the other group game, Angola will be seeking their second win to bag their ticket to World Cup as they play Tanzania at the same time.
A win for Angola, who lost to Nigeria 1-0 on Wednesday, affirms their head to head advantage over Uganda if the latter also wins this evening while Tanzania chances are virtually faded.
