The search for knockout stage slot in the Pepsi University football league intensifies every passing day.
On Islamic University in Uganda missed a chance to storm the quarterfinal after a barren away draw at St. Lawrence University (SLAU). IUIU will play Gulu in the last game but hopes of making it through the group are were shuttered on Thursday.
Whereas SLAU hit the wood work as one of the catchy moments of the game, IUIU had their goal cancelled for offside in the stoppage time. On Friday, Nkumba were shocked by a 3-2 home defeat by Bugema University.
Bugema took the lead in the 24nd minute through Lucky Kasajja before Aldrine Kambale extended lead three minutes later as the visitors went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
On return, Nkumba pulled one back through Reagan Lukwago in the 48th minute before Fred Gwoto netting the equalizer in the 80th minute.
Within no minute however, Bugema scored the winner through Frank Mugomba. The Pepsi-sponsored league returns this Saturday with Gulu hosting former champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) in group B.
