National Council of Sports (NCS) Ag. General Secretary Dr. Bernard Ogwel on Wednesday flagged off a team of eight national scrabble players for the East, Central and southern African Championship that commences this Friday till Sunday in Luasaka Zambia.
The championship is for English speaking nations from Africa and it is the 12th time Uganda is taking part out of the 16 editions. Uganda’s male seed one Edwin Phillip Mugisha promised glory.
“We have worked very hard and going us title contenders. We are going to shock favourites (Kenya),” he noted. Ogwel asked the players lift Uganda’s flag high. “As NCS, we want to give chance to all the 48 recognized federations and success together with accountability from Scrabble association of Uganda will attract more support to scrabble. We have paid for all the travel (return) tickets,” he said. Uganda last competed in this championship in 2017 and finished third as Nigeria were crowned champions.
