The third edition of Uganda Para-Badminton international championship commences this Friday at MTN Arena, Lugogo with 27 countries taking part in the 3-day event.
Over 200 entries from four continents including Africa, Europe, Asia and America have been confirmed with Uganda, as hosts, having 35 as the highest number, followed by Libya with 27.
The games will be played in six categories (classes) including; Wheel chair one, wheel chair two, Short stecher six (SS6), Standing Lower three(SL3), Standing Lower four (SL4),(SL5) and SU5.
The championship will also be used as a qualifier for Para-Olympics Tokyo 2020 and Uganda will much have their hopes in Mwesigwa Elizabeth, Khadija Khamika among others for medals. “Since it is an Olympics Tokyo 2020 qualifier, we have many nations this time than we had last year,” noted Simon Mugabi, the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Hajji Bumaali Mpindi, the President Uganda Para-Olympic committee on Wednesday urged NCS to support the Para-games especially in equipment.
