Four players will represent Uganda at this year’s Davis Cup tennis tournament due June 26 at the Complexe Sportif Concorde de Kintele in Congo Brazzaville.
The team announced on Wednesday followed trial matches at Lugogo Tennis complex in which ten players took part.
David Oringa, Frank Tayebwa, Simon Ayella and Edward Birungi will raise the Ugandan flag at the showpiece. After eight matches, Oringa managed 21 points as he finished unbeaten, Tayebwa managed 18 points (winning six) just like Ayella, while Edward Birungi managed 15 points from his five wins.
Birungi will relish the chance to mark his national debut.It was a heart-break for Paul Ssekandi, who also managed 15 points from five wins as he was disadvantaged by the seven point GD difference between him and Birungi.
Oringa, who plays for Team Kinetic, will be Uganda’s pivotal player due to his vast experience.
