Fresh Dairy, the official sponsors of the Fresh Dairy secondary schools ball games 1 have announced three sports scholarships for the best performing students in basketball and rugby as part of the Fresh Dairy secondary school Games schedule that climaxes with the national finals due May 4-11 at Mbale SS. To qualify for the scholarships to pursue a University degree at Strathmore University -Kenya, the overall best 3 winners in both basket (2 boys and girls) and rugby (1 boy) will also be required to excel academically in their UCE and UACE examination grades to be legible.
Fresh Dairy Marketing manager Vincent Omoth said that Fresh Dairy has partnered with Kenya’s Strathmore University to offer four-year degree course because Fresh dairy believes in developing a complete person sports, academic and health wise.
“The winning students will have a chance to select the degree of their preference to offer at Strathmore University,” said Omoth during the draws for the 2019 games held at National council of sports (NCS), Lugogo on Thursday.
With Fresh Dairy Shs5b five-year sponsorship, students from Universal secondary education schools have a chance to take part in the games after elimination of the Shs150000 participation fees. Fresh Dairy will also upgrade sports infrastructure at the hosting school as well as enhancing publicity for the games. Uganda secondary schools sports association (USSSA) Secretary General noted that over 2000 students from 188 teams are expected to participate in this year’s games competing in basketball, football (Girls), Rugby 15s (Boys), hockey, table tennis, badminton and tennis. USSSA also got sports equipment from the Uganda hockey federation for the games on Thursday. Meanwhile, A section of secondary schools taking part in the games are unimpressed with the delayed and unattended to petition and appeals cases from competition.
According to the competition’s rules, complaints resulting from a given match must reach the chairman or commissar in charge of the respective sports discipline within 24 hours after the end of the game/match and must be presented by the Team manager of the team aggrieved. The Chairperson may give a ruling if the case is basically technical. The complaint must be accompanied with a non refundable fee of Shs50000. If however the complaint is more serious and non-technical, the Chairperson will call for a meeting of the Committee who will deliberate on the issue and give a ruling and communicate it to the General Secretary. Furthermore, the purpose of settling disputes arising from protests or other general complaints which may be non-technical, the Executive Committee will constitute itself into a Jury of Appeal to make final and binding decisions. This will be a supreme organ for the resolution of conflicts. The Jury of Appeal will consist of: The patron of USSSA, chairman of USSSA and two other members as appointed by the executive committee.
