On the same day, International University of East Africa earned their second point of the competition after a barren stalemate against two-time champions Kampala University in Kansanga.

UCU, who drew 0-0 with MUBS on road in the reverse fixture, need a win to secure their place at the knockout stage while KU, who were held to a barren stalemate by IUEA at home in the reverse fixture, needed to win and pray that UCU falters against two-time winners MUBS.

Derrick Mbowa gave UCU the lead in the opening stanza before Brian Ade and Kaye Kizito added one each in the second stanza to seal UCU’s qualification to quarter finals.

The victory moved UCU to top of group D with 11 points after 5 games, one ahead of MUBS in second as KU are third with 4 points as IUEA sits at the foot with 2 points. Only a game left for each of the teams in the group. The Pepsi-sponsored league resumes on Friday with Uganda Martyrs University hosing St Lawrence University in Nkozi. Both teams already sealed their quarter final places. On Sunday, a double header sees Bishop Stuart visiting Bugema University whilst YMCA hosting Nkumba. With exception of group A, other groups have already confirmed their quarter finalists. Holders Kyambogo and Busitema qualified from group C, UCU and MUBS from group D, UMU and SLAU from group B.
