The national Women’s 3*3 Basketball team (Gazelles) was on Tuesday flagged off for the FIBA 3*3 World Cup Qualifier due in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The team was officially seen off at NCS Lugogo before flying out hours later for championship due May 4-5.
The team of four will be led by FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi and Coach Nick Natuhereza.
The players include; foreign-based Claire Lamunu, Sarah Ageno (UCU Lady Canons), Jamila Nansikombi and Ritah Immanishimwe (JKL Lady Dolphins). Natuhereza believes that the quartet is the best players to deliver the nation to the world cup.
He said that the game approach and style of play will be maintained. Uganda is in Pool A alongside Estonia, Australia and hosts Puerto Rico.
To qualify for world cup scheduled for June 18-23 this year in Netherlands, Uganda needs to finish among the top three. The team’s travel was funded by government through National council of sports (NCS).
