FUBA National Basketball League (NBL) has landed a timely Shs300m from Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) under flagship brand of Tusker Lite. The three-year deal was revealed on Tuesday in a press briefing at UOC Secretariat.
The women’s top tier league, WNBL (Women National Basketball League) is also part of the deal which will see Shs100m remitted by the beer company annually for league running affairs and cash prizes.
Tusker Lite has before partnered FUBA at only the playoffs stage and the exciting Friday Night Lights Basketball. According to UBL Brand Manager Cathy Twesigye, sponsoring regular season is an affirmation of their love for the game.
“We are committed to basketball in Uganda and our sponsorship speaks volumes,” she told the media before cautioning fans to drink responsibly to, during and from game.
FUBA is now tasked to secure a strong fan base for game days especially women’s league and less ranked games. FUBA Vice President for Marketing Arnold Katabi noted that FUBA has already taken steps to lure fans to attend games.
“Every Wednesday is Ladies Night where ladies enter for free no matter the venue and teams in action. These ‘slay queens’ always come along with (male) friends who in turn pay,” Katabi revealed. He added that the level of competition in the league is getting hard with no respect for giants.
