KIU Titans handed UCU Canons their maiden loss in 2019 Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) after a 64-58 win over the weekend at the MTN Arena, Lugogo. The two sides squared at 56-all in normal time to force overtime. It is the second time UCU goes into overtime –the first time against City Oilers which they won. However, on Friday UCU again forced overtime when KIU’s Brian Ssentongo fouled David Okello who later converted a pair of free throws with just seconds to play. Unlike against City Oilers, UCU this time managed only two points while the Kansanga-based side managed eight. KIU’s Denis Balungu managed a game high 17 points. Michael Bwanga scored 12 points while Oscar Muge managed 10 points and 10 rebounds. David Kongoror had a team high 15 points for UCU. Isaiah Mabeny managed 12 points while Fadhil Chuma had 10 points. Both teams will return to action on Saturday and Sunday with KIU taking on Sharing Youth and Ndejje respectively while UCU will take on the inform duo of Warriors and JKL Dolphins. In the women’s league, JKL Lady Dolphins registered their second century win of the season after a 121-44 win at YMCA Lady Hamsters. JKL’s Stella Oyella was named player of the match.
