Lady Doves vs UCU, Lugogo
Riticia Nabbosa scored the only goal in the first half as Lady Doves FC beat Kampala Queens on Thursday at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo in the FUFA Women Elite league play-offs to storm this season’s final.
It was a statement by Lady Doves Coach Oliva Mbekeka, who also prevailed over Faridah Bulega in this year’s FUFA Women Cup. Bulega and Mbekeka are the Crested Cranes Head and Assistant coach respectively.
Nabbosa broke the deadlock in the 25th minute after a well worked move to give the Masindi-based side, who are in their first league play-offs, hope for a season Double.
Lady Doves now face FUFA Women Cup holders UCU Lady Cardinals in the final this Sunday at the same venue. UCU ended Kawempe Muslim’s four-year dominance in the earlier tie with a 4-2 comprehensive victory.
Defeat to defending champions and winners from inception confirms new women league champions for the first time.
Cissy Nakate, Rehema Adubango own goal, Hasifah Nassuna and Moreen Kinavudori scored for UCU Lady Cardinals while Kawempe, who have now lost their last four games, got their consolation goals through Anita Namata and Brenda Nakayenga.
