Uganda’s journey at the ongoing 2019 Cosafa challenge Cup did not go farther than first step after falling to Lesotho in their first match of the tournament on Saturday at Princess Magogo stadium in Durban, South Africa.

Uganda, who featured as guests, started at quarter finals and despite dominating play, Abdullah Mubiru’s side, lacked the final touch to convert the chances created.

Afteran opening half of less clear-cut chances, the Cranes were particularly more aggressive in the second stanza after the introduction of Dan Sserunkuma for average Egypt-based Daniel Isiagi.

TheVipers SC striker had two shots hit the post and one saved from close. Juma Balinya also came close but failed on one-one situation after a break through.

Lesothosaw their two second half goals questionably cancelled for offside. In the penalties, Mustafa Kizza, John Revita and Paul Mucurezi failed to convert with only Muzamir Mutyaba and Juma Balinya converting for Uganda while Lesotho only saw one kick missed.

Uganda that spent two weeks in camp was using the tournament to try the likely local-based players for next year’s CHAN Championship.
