Uganda sports scribes under their national umbrella body Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) have joined the football fraternity to mourn the shocking demise of Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC player Rehema Adubango.
Kanyomozi
The four-time straight FUFA Women Elite league champions confirmed on Friday that the center back had passed on after electric shock. In a statement signed by USPA President Patrick Kanyomozi, scribes expressed deepest sympathy upon the loss of the young talented footballer.
“We have known Rehema as a great sports personality. Indeed, her memory will forever be cherished. May her gentle soul rest in peace,” reads part of the statement.
Adubango last played for Kawempe a day before as her side lost 4-2 to UCU Lady Cardinals at the 2018/19 league play-offs at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.
Adubango, who was in S.6 by the time death struck, was also instrumental as Kawempe Muslim SS won the national Fresh Dairy schools trophy in Mbale recently without conceding.
Late Adubango
Nicknamed ‘Otamendi’ for her rock defense, aerial ball prowess and game reading, the center back left many women football followers heartbroken though with special memories.
FUFA, other Women and men football clubs, friends and fans have all extended condolences to the family and the Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC fraternity.
Virgil was held in Bombo before burial in Nebbi district. RIP!
FUFA postpones Kawempe fixture
In the mourning spirit, the earlier scheduled Women Elite League third place play-off Sunday tie between Kawempe and Kampala Queens has been postponed by FUFA until further notice.
The final between UCU Cardinals and Lady Doves however remains at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo this Sunday.
