Albeit death striking in the women football fraternity on Friday with the death of Kawempe Muslim SS defender Rehema Adubango after electric shock, Lady Doves and UCU Lady Cardinals will put mourning aside to hunt for their maiden FUFA Women Elite league title when they battle in the final this Sunday afternoon at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.
May has been hard for the fraternity as UCU Cardinals Coach Peter Ssebulime, who led the University side to FUFA Women Cup triumph last year, also passed away in the same month. There will be a moment of silence dedicated to the souls of the departed before the final the much anticipated final.
Lady Doves are in the play-offs for the first time and would want to cap their Cinderella season with a season Double.
No side has ever won a season double in the local Women football but the Masinsi-based have a chance as they are also in the final of this season’s FUFA Women Cup where they face Makerere University o June 8.
UCU meanwhile were beaten at the 2017 finals 4-0 by last season champions Kawempe Muslim whom they beat at this season’s semi finals 4-2 on Thursday and winning the title will be the best dedication to their late coach. Lady Doves beat Kampala Queens 1-0 in the second semi final.
FUFA put aside Shs30m prize money for the Women Elite League has been won by Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC for the last four seasons since inception. FUFA postponed the third place play-off between Kampala Queens and Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC after the shocking death of Kawempe’s Adebango.
