With a game high 27 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes on court Geoffrey Soro led dominant Betway Power to dominant to a 80-58 win over UCU Canons in the NBL second round opener at Indoor Arena, Lugogo on Friday.

JKL leads the Women standings

Syrus Kiviiri (11), Agutu Samuel (12) and Libe Makala (12) were the other Betway Power players with Double figures. UCU Canons had only two players in double points; Isaiah Mabeny Ater with team high 16 points whilst Chuma Fadhil had 10 points.

It was a sweet revenge for the five time champions who lost to UCU Canons 68-71 on May 8. Since that loss, the Betway Uganda-sponsored Power has gone on to win six games in a row –beating Sharing Youth, KCCA Men, Falcons, Kampala University, Ndejje Angels and UCU Canons in the process.

GEoffrey soro was Man of the match

UCU Canons will seek to return to winning ways when they face JKL Dolphins next Wednesday as Betway Power takes on Kampala University next Saturday.

Holders JKL still unbeaten

Meanwhile, JKL Lady Dolphins managed to overcome UCU Lady Canons to secure a hard fought 77-66 as the second round tipped-off.

UCU were on course to break JKL’s unbeaten run but the reigning champions, who trailed 47-53 fought back to score 30 points while limiting UCU to just 13.

JKL had five players in double figures; Flavia Oketcho and Jamila Nansikombi came off the bench to collect 14 and 12 points respectively. Hope Akello had 14, Rita Imanishimwe collected 13 points and Peace Nakirijja added 11 points for the Henry Malinga side.

The Lady Canons were poor on the free line as they shot 8/21 and their bench produced 14 points compared to JKL’s 37. UCU had Sarah Ageno and Abei Priscilla return 12 and 17 points respectively while Brenda Kayaga had 16 points in her best performance so far.

This was UCU’s second loss this season after losing to similar side in the first round. They will seek redemption against June 16 against Nkumba Lady Marines as JKL, who have twelve wins from as many games, will seek to propel their unbeaten run when they face Nkumba on Sunday before facing UMU Ravens.
