National Rugby Series

Rujumba Memorial Circuit weekend results

Final: Pirates 14-15 Kobs

Semi-finals:

Pirates 34-05 Hippos
Kobs 12-07 Heathens

Betway Kobs beat Stanbic Black Pirates 14-15 at Kings Park Bweyogerere to clinch (Henry) Rujumba Memorial Circuit over the weekend. This was also the third 7s outing of the 2019 season.

Pius Ogena was named Man of the match

Betway Kobs still remain the only team to run over Pirates at their new home ground in both the national 7s and 15s league ties. The Betway-Uganda sponsored Kobs had earlier on condemned Pirates to their maiden defeat at the ground during the 2018/2019 premier league.

Prior to the weekend outing, both Kobs and Pirates had won one circuit apiece –with Kobs winning the opening circuit before losing to Pirates in the final of the second Circuit (Buddu7s) in Masaka the previous weekend. The sides that were tied at 41 points before Saturday action have also met at the final for three straight times now.

Kobs’ Pius Ogena, who was named Man of the match at the final is buoyant his side will carry on the fine performance to lift the title.

“We believe in ourselves which has boosted our confidence. We possessed well in our defense and never panicked against Pirates,” noted Ogena, who is looking forward to the first leg of Elgon Cup match between Kenya and Uganda due this weekend in Kisumu, Kenya.

Roke Telkom’s Head of Corporate Relations Alex Bazirake handed over the trophy to Betway Kobs before hailing the crowds for the ‘amazing’ atmosphere.

The next circuit (Heathens circuit) will be played in three weeks time at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
