Uganda top flight rugby side MRI Rams RFC has confirmed participation in this year’s Rwanda Genocide Memroial Rugby 7s due this Saturday at the Kacyiru Red Cross Grounds.

The annual tournament organized since 2013 is in the memory of sportsmen and women killed during the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. .

The one-day competition will have six domestic teams, one team from the Democratic Republic of Congo (Okapi Goma RFC) and Uganda’s MRI RAMS.

Rams Coach Richard Lumu said that the tournament will help him sharpen his struggling side. “The tournament will put us in good shape and we shall capitalize on it on return,” he noted.

With three circuits already down in the Uganda Nationals 7s Series, Rams is still struggling although Lumu believes they will bounce back strongly.

Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) President Tharcisse Kamanda expects stiff competition with foreign sides on board.

“This year’s edition should be more entertaining and competitive for the fans since we have teams from Uganda and Congo,” Kamanda told the RRF Media.
