Uganda Rugby Cranes Head Coach Robert Seguya summoned a ‘teenage squad’ for this year’s edition of the Elgon Cup this Saturday at the Momboleo Stadium in Kisumu, Kenya.
Despite the absence of some ‘big name’ players, the former player is confident that his rookies can pull it off against the experienced Kenyan side.
Kenya Simbas released their squad for the annual clash first leg but also theirs was no different from that summoned by Seguya.
The Elgon Cup tournament has been dominated by Kenya but with both sides summoning squads dominated by inexperienced players which puts the tie at level.
“I have confidence in the team that I picked to put up a good show. It is always tricky playing away from home but I believe in the team,” Seguya noted.
Kenya has won the 13 editions of the men’s Elgon Cup against Uganda’s three titles –with the last coming in 2012.
The ladies teams will kickoff proceedings with Uganda’s women’s coach Edgar Lemerigar already excited with the clash as a major build up for the team that is soon commencing preparations for the world cup qualifiers.
