Rockets hockey club on Wednesday unveiled Genius Hub as their their shirt sponsors in a function held at the KSK Foundation, Green Campus offices in Kampala. The Genius Hub will provide 22 playing kits inclusive of goal keeper’s kit.
“We needed to get a partner after the commercialization and professionalization of hockey sport in the country. We already have a bank account and even a data base,” noted Simon Peter Mamulati, THE Rockets hockey club chairman.
He said that Rockets –which is mostly made up of students also looks forward to play games abroad in countries like Egypt for the players to get more exposure and experience.
Ronnie Mutebi, who is one of the Genius Hub Directors, expressed delight in this partnership.
“We are happy to be part of the Rockets humble story. We chose to partner with Rockets because hockey as a sport that has not attracted much attention. Rockets should stay focuses, disciplined, professional and accountable for greater heights. Good results will motivate other sponsors,” noted Mutebi, who is also the UPL side Bright Stars FC chairman.
Rockets Vice Chairperson Kenneth Tamale said that the club wants to reclaim lost glory despite loss of several players due to insufficient funds to run the club.
“With Genius Hub on board, we promise to return to where we belong,” Tamale said.
Rockets is an old hockey power house that used to feed the national team albeit failure to claim the national championship.
The side has only won the 2016 Easter, Weatherhead Open titles, 2015 Independence Open and the 2014 Weatherhead Open.
