After scoring the opener in the Uganda Cranes stunning 2-0 win over Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the team’s first AFCON 2019 game last Saturday, Patrick Henry Kaddu has set his goal target at this year’s continental showpiece.

Patrick Kaddu goes for a kill as Desabre observes keenly

The KCCA FC forward scored early in the first half as he headed home Miya Faruku’s corner before Man of the match Emma Okwi sealed Cranes first AFCON victory in 41 years in the second stanza by heading home Miya’s free kick.

Uganda had last won at Afcon in 1978 during semi finals where they beat Nigeria 2-1 before losing 2-0 to Ghana at the final. The Cranes return to action this Wednesday against tricky injured Zimbawe at the Cairo International stadium before hosts and record 7-time champions Egypt take on DRC later in the day.

Zimbawe lost 1-0 to Egypt in their opener. Kaddu, who also scored the goal as Uganda qualified to the tournament with a game to spare after 1-0 home win over Cape Verde last year, is hungry for more goals at his debut continental showpiece appearance.

“I scored a goal but it was a collective effort from the team. We still need the cohesion for more results. We are representing more than 40 million Ugandans and we need not to let them down. This gives me more courage to work harder and score more goals. My target is not less than four goals at this tournament and I hope we can go as far as we can,” he noted.

The Cranes last encounter against Zimbabwe was in May 2015 in Harare where the hosts bagged a 2-0 win. Zimbawe has won five and lost only two in the last seven meetings with Uganda.

Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre is not expected to make changes in his lineup that impressed against the two-time champions (DRC) in the opener. The French tactician has however warned against complacency against Zimbawe that has good individual talents.
