UBF boss starts ‘green boxing’ campaign

Muhangi plants a tree at A&B boxing club recently

With Uganda facing harsh climatic changes due to human activities especially deforestation, Uganda boxing federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi has started a campaign to encourage Ugandans especially the boxing fraternity to plant more trees and also desist from environmental destruction.

“We must encourage young ones to plant trees and conserve environment. Uganda’s population is dominated by youths and most of these love sports. This becomes easier to pass environmental massage to them so that we can see a future green Uganda and also prevent natural hazards as a result of human environmental degradation,” noted Muhangi after planting a tree at A&B boxing club in Bunamwaya to launch the campaign.

This was during the last outing of ‘Box HIV/Aids out of Uganda campaign organized by UBF with support from UNAIDs. Over 2000 people from the boxing fraternity have benefited from this quarterly campaign through free HIV/Aids counseling, testing, treatment and safe male circumcision.

The campaign that also involves blood donation is jointly implemented by AIDS information center, Uganda AIDS commission, PEPFAR, UNWOMEN, UNCDF and Infectious disease institute.
