The national boxing team (Bombers) camping at dilapidated Luzira prisons wants to be hosted at State House just as the Cranes were hosted by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday evening as they arrived from the AFCON finals in Egypt.
The Cranes exited at the last 16 after falling to Senegal 1-0 courtesy of Sadio Mane first half goal at the Cairo international stadium.
It was the first time Uganda gets to this stage in 41 years after losing to Ghana in the final in 1978. The rather good Cranes Afcon tale however came with the resignation of Head Coach Sebastien Desabre, who guided the team to straight return to the continental showpiece.
The Bombers, who are preparing for next month’s All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco want to brief the President on what is needed for them to collect medals from the Games.
“The president has always welcomed boxing medals but does not know how we prepare compared to Uganda Cranes. Like out football brothers, we need audience from the president. We are the ones always called on when demonstrations start in Kampala; yet we are left behind whenever opportunity to see the president comes,” noted Zebra Mando Senyange, the Bomber team manager.
