The change Kirinya Jinja SSS FC name to Busoga United has elicited mixed reactions among the fans and different stakeholders.
To most, it was a good move by arguably the arguably biggest school in the region while others feel that the club has been turned tribal.
Club President Diana Nyago however clarifies that they wanted to spread the club’s wings beyond the gates of Jinja SSS.
“The club will now be the pride of the region as a whole. Everyone living in Busoga and beyond should support us. It is not particularly for one group, it is for us all. Everyone will be part of it,” she explained.
The club has also started tours to get closer to fans in the region. On Saturday, they launched a one-week tour around all the eleven districts of Busoga –starting with a trip to Mayuge where they beat the area select side 3-1.

They later faced Luuka and Iganga select on the same day before crossing to Bugiri and Namayingo as well as Namutumba and Bugweri on Sunday.
They will play the South Sudan CHAN team this Monday at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru before heading to Kaliro and Buyende on Tuesday.
The side that recently confirmed Abbey Bogere Kikomeko as head coach on a two-year deal will then tour at the Kamuli Town Council with a match against the district’s select side.
Kikomeko hopes to get new players that will impress from tours. The club’s newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hassan Takoowa confirmed that the tour will climax with the official launch of the new name this Saturday at Jinja SSS and His Royal Highness, the Kyabazinga of Busoga Wilberforce Gabula IV is expected to preside over the function.
Busoga United (Kirinya Jinja SSS) finished 9th on premier league table last season and look forward for a better finish in the 2019/20 season.
