The 23rd edition of the annual Kampala amateur volley club (KAVC) international volleyball tournament has received a financial boost of Shs180m from perennial sponsors -National social security fund (NSSF). The NSSF-KAVC invitational tournament is scheduled for August 2-4 in Lugogo and was officially launched by the NSSF Deputy Managing Director, Patrick Ayota on Tuesday at the Cooper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo. “The sponsorship is in line with NSSF policy to support the youth initiatives, contribute into youth empowerment and promote social security,” Ayota reiterated NSSF’s commitment to the tournament after bankrolling the tournament for eleven years to date. The sponsorship will go a long way in helping organisers to pay for the venue, equipment, officials’ allowances, cash prizes and accolades for outstanding players, welfare among others. KAVC President Milly Kure revealed that the winners will have $2500 at stake while the runners up and the second runners up have $1500 and $1000 respectively. The chairman local organizing committee, Hamza Lubwama has confirmed that majority of the invited foreign teams confirmed participation. “We shall give out Man (Woman) of the match awards from the quarter final stage,” he revealed. The Primary schools finals will precede the tournament finals. Uganda’s KAVC and Ndejje University are the men and women defending champions respectively.
