The Uganda U16 Women’s National basketball team (Junior Gazelles) was flagged off on Thursday for the forthcoming FIBA U16 Women’s African Championship due July 28-August 3 at the Amahoro Indoor National Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda.
The team that was flagged off at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) in Lugogo will be making their maiden appearance at the competition.
“We are confident we shall put up good performance at our debut appearance. The team has been in residential camp at the African Bible University in Lubowa and they are very confident about raising the nation’s flag high in this tournament,” Coach Roger Serunyigo told the media.
Uganda will be up against Mali, Egypt, Angola, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique and hosts Rwanda. The Junior Gazelles contingent departs for Kigali this Friday and will need to finish among the top two teams to qualify for the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup 2020.
