Denis Onyango’s performance at the Uganda Cranes and his South African club, Mamelodi Sundowns has continued to inspire the youth back in Uganda.
The African based best player of 2016 has consistently put remarkable performance at both club and National team.
In the same way, Uganda Crested Cranes goal keeper Ruth Aturo has also inspired many female goal keepers. The 2018 Airtel-FUFA Women player of the year is the reason why Brenda Kasana is a goal keeper.
The Kawempe Muslim SS goal keeper, who was voted the best in the Kampala region Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) qualifiers, says that Aturo has inspired her into goalkeeping.
“I want to be like Aturo. She started at Kawempe Muslim and is now at the national team, I believe I can be like her,” noted Kasana. Similarly, Daniel Mukisa from Kawempe Muslim was voted the Kampala best Boys keeper. He is also inspired by Onyango.
“I want to be like Onyango –the next Cranes goal keeper and I am working hard to achieve that,” noted Mukisa.
To win the ARS Kampala region championship, Kawempe Muslim SS beat Lubaga high School in Girls final to win Shs1.5m prize money before beating KJT in penalties in Boys to win the same amount.
ARS action returns with Buganda region qualifiers that kicks off this Friday till Sunday in Luwero.
